The festival of ancient crafts
Radicofani
01 June 2025
Since 2001, the ancient village of Radicofani, on June 1 and 2, has come alive under the banner of the rediscovery of ancient traditions. Two days dedicated to the re-enactment of the main working traditions, culinary, trades and means of livelihood, under the banner of memory and the past time in the ancient village of Ghino di Tacco. The streets and squares come alive with artisans at work, exhibitions of ancient agricultural tools, open cellars, and reenactment of hand reaping and threshing with vintage machines. The opening of the festival takes place on the evening of June 1 with a large dinner of typical dishes followed by dancing. On June 2, the festival begins in the morning with a parade of farm machinery and continues with a re-enactment of master threshers at work. In the afternoon, the "quadrille" takes place in the square followed by the re-enactment of threshing with vintage machines and the haystack hauling. Until evening, the village is enlivened by traveling groups and theatrical performances. In addition to threshing, the moment of milking and cheese making in the square is recreated, as well as the collective work of washing with ashes. The cellars, workshops of the knife grinder, blacksmith, carpenter, shoemaker, wicker basket maker and embroiderer are open. The purpose of the festival proposed by the Radicofani community is to engage visitors by having them rediscover their past, but also to remind itself of its deep roots. Food stands with traditional peasant menus are in operation during the festival. I am text block. Click edit button to change this text. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.
