The medieval festival of the small community of Radicofani The bigonzo is the ancient egg-carrying vessel that gives its name to this traditional Palio held in the Radicofani community every September. The festival, designed to pay homage to its ancient origins, lasts for two days during which the entire town is transformed into a medieval village. The eve day features propitiatory dinners, performances, tastings and a procession for the presentation of the banner. The Palio takes place the following day, following the Holy Mass and the blessing of the four contrade that will compete. The contrade, Castello, Borgo Maggiore, Castel Morro, and Bonmigliaccio, choose bearers who will run through the streets of the borough with bigonzi until they reach St. Peter's Square, the place where the winner will be declared.
