On the trail of Ghino di Tacco, the gentleman bandit, among ancient tunnels, archaeological treasures and 360-degree views
Radicofani and its fortress fit within an artistic, scenic and historical context that ranges from the Via Francigena to the exploits of Ghino di Tacco, via the Val d’Orcia Park and the rolling hills of the province of Siena.
The route inside the Park leads to the discovery of underground passages leading to the five bastions, which are fully illuminated and can be visited, and to the cassero (old fortress) with its tower.
Inside the tower is the historical museum, spread over three floors, whose archaeological finds come from a Final Bronze Age settlement (12th-10th centuries B.C.) found on Radicofani’s high ground.
Climb further up the tower to the terrazza dei merli (located about 1,000 meters above sea level). The highest point in the entire Val d’Orcia offers a 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape.
